Possessed ist eine US-amerikanische Death-Metal-Band, die ursprünglich 1983 gegründet wurde. Bekannt für ihren schnellen Spielstil und Jeff Becerras Growl-Gesang, gelten sie oft als die erste Band des Death-Metal-Genres und ebneten zusammen mit Metallica, Exodus, Testament und Death Angel den Weg für die Thrash-Metal-Szene der Bay Area in den 1980er Jahren. Die Band ist außerdem bemerkenswert, da das spätere Primus-Mitglied Larry LaLonde von 1984 bis 1987 Leadgitarrist von Possessed war.
Nach ihrer Auflösung 1987 und einer Neugründung von 1990 bis 1993 formierte sich die Band 2007 mit dem ursprünglichen Bassisten und Sänger Jeff Becerra erneut. Seit ihrer Gründung hat Possessed drei Studioalben veröffentlicht: „Seven Churches“, „Beyond the Gates“ und „Revelations of Oblivion“ sowie ein Live-Album, zwei Kompilationsalben und zwei EPs.

After breaking up in 1987, and reforming from 1990 to 1993, the band reformed again under original bassist and vocalist Jeff Becerra in 2007. Since its
inception, Possessed has released three studio albums: Seven Churches, Beyond the Gates and Revelations of Oblivion as well as one live album, two compilation albums and two EPs.
