Adding something new to the sound!“
Das ist der Schlachtruf des fünften Albums „Veil Of Ignorance“, welches dort weitermacht, wo das 2006er „Sound of the Republic“ aufgehört hat und welches an euren Ohren zehrt wie ein tollwütiger Pitbull auf Steroiden. Das schwedische Quintett hat mit dem langjährigen Producer und Freund Daniel Bergstrand (In Flames, Meshuggah) zusammengearbeitet: „I don't know anyone else in the world who can do the things Daniel does,“ sagt Frontmann Alexander 'Alle' Hagman. „It's our fourth record with him and it was just logical for us to continue to work with him as he always creates such a crisp sound. I really think he's the number one producer – and many people would agree with me.“
Nach einem entspannten Prozess des Schreibens und unbekümmertem Pre-Production Sessions stürzten sich Hagman, die Gitarristen Marco Eronen und Daniel Holmgren, der Bassist Andreas 'Josse' Johansson und der Schlagzeuger Matte Modin so intensiv in die Aufnahmen, dass einer von ihnen im Krankenhaus landete: „We were trying to get the perfect sound. We wanted to play as good as we have ever before, so we worked hard. We find playing for long sessions instead of cutting to much while recording, brings out the best in us so we just kept going. And going...“ Bassist Johansson spielte bis zu 18 Stunden pro Tag an mehreren Tagen in Folge und hatte bald einen Ellenbogen groß wie eine Orange. „When you want things perfect, these things happen“ so Hagman.
Dieses glühende Arbeitsethos und die Mission zum perfekten Sound führte zu einer Mischung aus stampfendem Hardcore, den Melodien und dem Groove von modernem Metal und der Leidenschaft und der Wut von politischem Punk.
„We want to play with our whole hearts. And the lyrics are a more intimate thing for me to put out for an audience so it's really important that I do it with my soul. That very much applies to the first single ‚Friends And Traitors`, which says ‚Music from the heart and lyrics from my head to my hand – and I'm left handed.` That's how we do it“, so Hagman.
